At EcoBeezzz Family Apiary, every jar of honey is a testament to nature’s purity, sustainable stewardship, and the warmth of family tradition. Our process—rooted in respect for bees and the environment—ensures that you receive honey in its most natural, nutrient-rich form. Join us as we take you behind the scenes of our journey, from hive to jar.
Caring for Our Bees: The Foundation of Quality Honey
Our journey begins with the bees themselves. Healthy, thriving bees are the heart of our apiary. We use the Langstroth hive system, which allows us to add honey supers—removable boxes above the brood chamber—so bees can store surplus honey without disturbing their living space. This method, recommended by sustainable beekeepers worldwide, minimizes stress and supports the colony’s natural organization. Sustainable Beekeeping Practices
Ethical and Sustainable Harvesting
Timing is everything in honey harvesting. We only collect honey during periods of abundant nectar flow, ensuring bees have more than enough reserves for themselves. Our harvest is selective: only frames that are at least 80% capped—meaning the honey is fully ripened and moisture content is low—are chosen. This guarantees both quality for you and security for our bees. Guide to Honey Harvest
We use escape boards or gentle air blowers, never chemical boards, to move bees out of the honey supers. This non-invasive method respects the bees’ space and reduces colony stress, a practice shared by other leading sustainable apiaries. Sustainable Beekeeping Practices
Traditional Extraction: Preserving Raw Goodness
Once the honey-filled frames are in our honey house, we begin the extraction process. First, we carefully uncap the wax seals from the honeycomb cells using a heated knife or uncapping fork. This wax, rich in honey, is set aside for further draining and often used to make candles or balms.
Next, the frames are placed in a centrifugal extractor. This device spins the frames at high speed, using centrifugal force to draw honey out of the comb without damaging its structure. The honey flows down the sides of the extractor and is collected at the bottom. Honey Extraction Techniques
Throughout this process, we never apply heat or aggressive filtration. Our honey is strained through a coarse filter to remove large debris while retaining pollen, enzymes, and beneficial nutrients. This minimal processing preserves the honey’s raw, unfiltered character—packed with antioxidants and natural flavors. Guide to Honey Harvest
Bottling: From Our Family to Your Table
After extraction, the honey settles briefly to allow air bubbles and fine particles to rise. We then bottle the honey directly, ensuring it remains as close to its natural state as possible. Each jar is filled by hand, labeled, and sealed for freshness.
Our small-batch approach means every jar can be traced back to a specific harvest, reflecting the unique floral sources—wildflower, clover, and more—of that season. The result is a honey that’s not only delicious but also a true reflection of our local ecosystem.
Family Traditions and Eco-Friendly Values
Beekeeping is more than a livelihood for us—it’s a family tradition. Knowledge and passion are passed down through generations, ensuring best practices and a deep respect for nature. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the hives: we plant pollinator-friendly flowers, support local biodiversity, and educate our community about the importance of bees.
